Walmart Worker Dies When Shoppers Break Down Doors

Friday , November 28, 2008

Black Friday took a grim turn when a Walmart employee in New York died after bargain hunters broke down the doors to the store.

The 34-year-old male employee was pronounced dead one hour after shoppers broke down the doors to the shopping center in Valley Stream, N.Y., and knocked him down at around 5 a.m. Friday, police said.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was also taken in for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries during the incident, police said.

People are ruthless. Dying for something so f*cking stupid must add insult to injury for his family and friends. Now I'll be angry all day.

I'm sorry, foxie, I didn't mean to distress anyone.
It was more a reflection on our culture, priorities and selfishness.

I thought Wal-marts were open 24 hours now? The Wal-Mart my wife went to is, and people were in there at 2am getting ready for the big sales. You weren't allowed to put anything in your cart until 5am, but you could brouse the selection, and decide what you wanted to get anytime before that. She said that when they made the 5am announcement, it was wild, but everyone was very orderly. There was a small fight over a lego starship, but everyone around them was looking at them like "What are you? 2yr olds?!?!"

When people ask me what I like least about the Holiday season, this is what it is. The greediness, the rudeness, etc. I would be so ashamed of myself if I had been in that crowd of 200 people (even though I know I would not have rushed a door like that), and if I had been one of them there is no way I could live with myself. It's very sad.

This was a very sad story. I did not shop today because of the crowds, this is not the first time this type of out of control stampede has occurred. I hope retailers have learned a lesson...

"I hope retailers have learned a lesson..."
Uh yeah, they've learned that people REALLY love a sale. It's not a lesson for retailers to learn; it's a lesson for shoppers to learn.

This is disgraceful, vile and so extremely tragic. God, please watch over his entire family.

Lain, you said exactly what I was thinking after my initial shock (What is happening to our country!...."It was more a reflection on our culture, priorities and selfishness."

GKitty, what you said, was my third thought.

Ladies if you are ever in a crowd like that, immediately put your hands straight up over your head. And try to move with the crowd. That will keep your arms from being pinned to your side, help you keep your balance, and if you are being crushed or losing your footing you can bring your arms down, you should be able to catch shoulders of folks next to you, as you arms go down, you should be able to regain your footing.

OMG! What is the world coming to? I haven't heard about the Toys R Us incident, but I was heartbroken over the Wal-Mart one. I make it a rule to avoid shopping centers the weekend after Thanksgiving. I hope that pregnant woman is ok.

The pregnant woman and the her baby are fine. The thing is they stepped over the body of the 34 year old they crushed and nearly trampled the cops administering CPR. People have no respect for each other. they were so set on getting $300.00 TV's that nothing would stand in their way. sick.

Grandpa, thanks for giving us a really good safety tip.

GKitty, I haven't heard about that story yet.

sam, thank God, the pregnant woman and her baby are fine. I can't believe this stuff even happens. I'm also in shock about the policemen, who were almost trampled, trying to help the 34 year old man. This is all so senseless and sad.

I hear they are reviewing surveillance tapes, but in a mob like that, you can never tell who started the pushing. The folks at the front can't be faulted; they are just so much flotsam trying to ride the wave, unable to stop it.

Apparently the dispute in Palm Desert was unrelated to shopping, the two groups of people had issues with one another.

    This is so messed up!!

My mom and I went out today, but at about 12:15, so everyone was way too tired to pull anything like this..

Our Wal-Mart is open 24 hours. People were there all night, and like Dave said, they couldn't put anything in their carts until a certain time.

Hits it seems every time you post with us you say something negative about us or America. If you do not like the way we do things, which I guess is soooo different in Canada, where no one owns a gun, why do you post here in a conservative group?

Hi, Great Britain is an island, and has had a total ban on the private ownership of handguns for decades, it has not kept handguns out of the hands of criminals. It has gotten so bad, that a certain number of "Bobbies", now carry one, breaking centuries of tradition. Mexico has a total ban on prvately owned handguns, as well as automatic weapons of anykind, yet the drug cartels out gun the local police.

I actually used to identify myself as conservative before I learned what conservative actually meant in America..

And grandpa, it was a joke. Breathe.

I am very convinced that grandpa doesn't need some smart a#$# comment from a Canadian who was a "Conservative until she figured out what a US Conservative was" telling him how to relax (as in breathe).

    a) a joke is only a joke when it's funny.
    b) How do you know how easily those people got their guns? It's entirely possible that they got them through the legal process, waiting period, background checks and all. The fact that they were irresponsible gun owners is a totally different story.

Pam, Canadians i have found are very angry people. Maybe we should just invade and introduce them to American conservatism. Or just take all their maple syrup & diamonds and prevent their clubbing of baby seals.
