Since I started posting the before and afters of our most recent patio & garden project a few people have asked about the interior of our house. My answer to that is that it is "a work in progress" and it is [pretty much] in a constant state of evolution.
The house itself is a rather large Cape Cod style, brick structure with wood trim. It was built in the mid-1930s by a general contractor as his personal home. There were originally 3 bedrooms and 1 bath on the first floor; a kitchen, a rear foyer, a very large dining room, an very odd-sized lrving room, and a sun porch at the very front of the house. The second story had a great room flanked by 3 bedrooms with 2 very large walk-in closets, and a bath.
My husband acquired the house with his previous wife about 15 years ago and he bought her out of it when they divorced. This has always been something of an emotional sore spot with me and it really delayed our getting started on the much needed renovations.
Some of the rooms are now completed. Others are pending completion, based on sourcing some unusual items that are key to the design. Others are scheduled - and we are getting to them - but it is taking time because we are doing 95% of the work ourselves.
So here you go: The nickel tour of our interior.
Please know that I am saving the untouched rooms and those that are currently under construction until I have a bit more to talk about. Once we're up and running with them I will give them their own space and then add the finished work to this post.
I have some finishing work to do in the guest room but you'll get the idea. We'll be taking on my studio, which consumes the entire second floor, as well as the dining room come Fall 2008. The Kitchen is scheduled for early Spring 2009 and the bathroom will be completed after that.
